What is an Interpreter?
ASL interpreting is the translation between American Sign Language and another language, typically English, to allow communication between deaf and hearing people. ASL interpretation is done by qualified ASL interpreters and is common in medical, legal, educational, mental health, and vocational environments. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASL_interpreting
The SIA interpreters are a dedicated group committed to providing language and cultural access to the Deaf Community.

My name is Faith Akinlotan and I have been interpreting since 2017. I enjoy learning about languages, culture, and diversity within the community all around us. One of my favorite things to do is traveling to different countries and learning about their culture, language, and the interconnectedness that we capitalize on when we engage through dialogue and interaction. My current hobbies are running 5k’s, 10k’s, and half marathons along with playing club volleyball. My professional goal as an interpreter is to continue to develop the craft/ skills in this field by being active within the deaf community. I have been encouraged to see things through a different lens and learn from every new perspective life presents me with!

Hello I am Dedra Wilcher. I grew up in Chicago. I joined the military after high school then traveled around, and now I live in Baltimore with my husband and children.
While living in Baltimore I worked as a nurse, then a police officer which afforded me opportunities to meet many different people such as deaf and hard of hearing. I became interested in learning how to communicate better with them so I studied American Sign Language (ASL) at the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC). I then earned my BA for interpreting and communication at Sieana Heights University in Michigan
I now work with some agencies providing communication access and support to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. I enjoy working with my hands so you might find me in my down time crocheting or creating t-shirt, bags, jewelry, and other crafts.
